Where is Cambutal?
Cambutal is located at the southern tip of the Azuero Peninsula, about 6 hours from Panama City. The journey takes you through rolling hills, charming towns, and stunning coastal views before you reach this peaceful getaway.
Option 1: Driving to Cambutal (Easiest & Fastest)
If you have access to a rental car, driving is the best way to reach Cambutal. Here’s what you need to know:
Route Overview:
Panama City → ~Santiago (3 hours via the Pan-American Highway)
Santiago → Las Tablas (1.5 hours on paved roads)
Las Tablas → Tonosí → Cambutal (1.5 hour, windy, bumpy road)
Pro Tips for Driving:
The road to Tonosi is fully paved and in good condition BUT from Tonosi to Cambutal is full of holes.
A 4x4 is NOT required, but some areas can be bumpy.
Drive cautiously, especially at night, as wildlife and livestock may be on the road.
The roads through the mountains are windy, so if you get carsick, prepare!
We recommend renting a truck that can get you anywhere in Cambutal!
Option 2: Taking the Bus to Cambutal (Budget-Friendly)
Buses are a cheap and reliable way to reach Cambutal, but it requires a few transfers.
Step-by-Step Bus Route:
From Panama City: Take a bus from Albrook Terminal to Las Tablas (~4.5 hours, ~$10 USD)
From Las Tablas: Take a bus to Tonosí (~1.5 hours, ~$5 USD)
From Tonosí: Take a local bus or taxi to Cambutal (~45 minutes, $3-$20 USD)
Pro Tips for Taking the Bus:
Buses to Las Tablas leave frequently from Albrook Terminal.
The last bus from Las Tablas to Tonosí leaves around 3 PM—plan accordingly!
If you miss the last bus, you can take a taxi from Tonosí to Cambutal ($20 USD - DM for taxi driver contact).
Option 3: FlyTrip Flight to Pedasi + Driving (Fastest & Smoothest, but more expensive)
For those who prefer a quicker route, you can fly from Panama City to Pedasi, then drive to Cambutal.
Step-by-Step Flying Route:
Take the 40-minute flight from Albrook Regional Airport to Pedasi Airport (~$120 USD, FlyTrip)
